Best Bars | Sydney

Best Bars | Sydney

While it's no Melbourne when it comes to the sheer variety of trendy places to eat and drink, Sydney still holds its own if only for the fact that you can always find a place to drink with a beautiful view of the ocean.  Summer in Sydney's unlike anywhere else.  The energy of the place puts everyone in a good mood and you can't help but have a smile on your face.  Here are some of our picks for best bars in Sydney from this past summer living there, many around Bondi because we found it nearly impossible to ever leave.

Coogee Pavilion | Coogee

One of our favorite spots in Sydney.  The venue is massive with three floors.  Different stations around the building serve a variety of food.  The top floor has several bars, a DJ, and roof access overlooking the beach.  Security is very strict though and seems to be looking for reasons to kick people out.  While you're in the area, Coogee Beach is one of the best in the Eastern suburbs.  It's a lot more low key than neighboring Bondi.

Mrs Sippy | Double Bay

I give this place a million points for the name alone. The LA-inspired spot feels breezy and summery with colorful graffiti on the walls and a huge open-air courtyard.  It's a great place for lunch and drinks or late-night dancing.  It's a shame we only found it in our last few days in Sydney.

Hotel Ravesis | Bondi Beach

Absolute stunning bar right on the beach.  The inside is light and airy and the space is completely wrapped in glass joining inside and outside as one.  There's a terrace with seating wrapped around the second level.  Hotel Ravesis has DJs nightly and expensive but delicious, unique cocktails.

Young Henrys Brewery | Newtown

Young Henrys is a local microbrewery in Sydney's trendy Newtown that's been blowing up over the last few years.  They released my absolute favorite beer, Newtowner, and skyrocketed in popularity.  Now you'll find their beers at bars all around Sydney and New South Whales.  For the best experience though, head to their brewery bar for fresh beer that was brewed on-site.  The guys are awesome and you can even get a tour of the brewery.  The whole space feels like a little piece of Brooklyn came to Australia.  Definitely one of the best craft beer bars in Sydney.

Uncle Ming's | CBD

I never get sick of the speakeasy-feel and Uncle Ming's is no different.  It's a Chinese-themed bar in the basement of a CBD building.  Head here for their dumplings, cool decor, and general seedy vibe drenched in glowing red light.  One of the best bars in the Sydney CBD.

Mamasan | Bondi Beach

Another Asian-themed bar/restaurant with amazing dumplings, but this time in Bondi Beach.  Mamasan describes itself as, "Moulin Rouge meets 1920's Shanghai," which I'd say is fairly accurate.  The interior is eclectic and fun.  They've got cold Japanese beer on tap and some incredible vegetable gyozas.  They recently opened a Surry Hills location, but Bondi is home turf.

Bondi Icebergs Club | Bondi Beach

This makes the list solely because of its stunning location and views.  There are actually two restaurants: the casual Bistro on street level and a more upscale, expensive restaurant upstairs.  The Bistro food is average but drinks are cheap and you are literally on top of the ocean overlooking the Icebergs pool.  You can't possibly get closer to the water than this.  It's the best of Sydney bars with a view.

The Grounds of Alexandria | Alexandria

Now admittedly we haven't made it to this place yet, but I've walked by it and there's no way it's not good.  The Grounds is like nothing I've seen before.  It sits on an acre in the city and the space has been completely transformed into a sustainable garden that also houses a coffee roaster and café.  There are several concepts on site, but the Potting Shed has an incredible looking menu and amazing drinks on offer.  Imagine sitting in the middle of a beautiful garden full of vegetables and flowers while sipping a handcrafted cocktail and eating food grown right there.

If you're in Sydney definitely check these places out, and let us know in the comments below if you have any favorite spots in Sydney!  We're always in the market for cool bars and restaurants.
